The head of the returned residents group is reporting that the British Government has made a major decision in respect of Jamaicans convicted in the United Kingdom. Percival LaTouche says Britain has committed to providing cash incentives for Jamaicans serving sentences for crimes, if they agree to leave the UK before the end of their detention. According to Mr. LaTouche, the convicts could be given up to $5,000 British pounds, much less than it would cost to keep the convicts in British prisons. He would like other countries to implement an incentive system for Jamaican convicts facing deportation. The deportation of Jamaican prisoners in the UK and their transfer to Jamaica has been going on for years. In 2007 Prime Minister Gordon Brown told Parliament that there were 1,400 Jamaican prisoners in British penal facilities, the highest number of all foreign nationals, adding that the UK would sign agreements with various countries “so that we can return prisoners from our cells as expeditiously as possible.” In the last five years, numerous articles have centered on foreign nationals in UK prisons and the disproportionate number of Caribbean prisoners. In 2005, Jamaicans accounted for 84% of all Caribbean prisoners in the UK. In “Why Jamaicans are Overrepresented in British Prisons,” Professor Ben Bowling, Director of Criminological Studies at the School of Law at King’s College, London, explained that the disparity can be explained by the fact that organized crime groups in Britain use poor Jamaicans as drugs couriers. Stating that the Jamaican prisoners currently serving time in the UK are mostly drugs couriers who are arrested coming into the country, he says that “By an accident of geography, the Caribbean lies directly between the major cocaine-producing countries—Colombia, Bolivia and Peru—and the main drug-consuming countries of North America and Western Europe.” Another article confirms this, stressing that many Jamaica women used as drug mules are filling UK jails

This is definitely a shocker to me! I last saw Ari on a train in Brooklyn, and we had a long conversation about what she was up to. We knew each other from the old stomping grounds, House Of Leo in jamaica, where she was a hair whipping dancer whos mad moves made Stone Love give her the nick name Madussa. She got off at her stop and i kept going, thinking what an amazing character of dancehall she was. Not knowing what a legendary part of music she was. For more on Ari and her contribution to music go to LargeUps Blog http://largeup.okayplayer.com/2010/10/21/ari-up-1962-2010/
Miami Carnival has just finished! I’m going over some of my playlists that I created for the carnival season, and I came across one that DJ Shane from Black Talon gave me called "90's Road March Songs". These songs are the songs that the "people" have chosen as there favorite while playing Mas in Trinidad. Usually a very catchy and interactive song, cuz when on the road and drinking, the last thing you want to do is think to deeply. The 90's really changed the Road March game with a lot more Jump, Wave, Push Back, etc. Without going to far into why, here’s the who and when....and if you’re a dj who gets to play soca, playing these songs in or out of order are guaranteed to create Bacchanal!
1990-Tambu-We aint going home 1991-Super Blue-Sumting and Wave 1992-Super Blue-Jab Jab 1993-Super Blue-Bachanal 1994-Preacher-Jump and Wave 1995-Super Blue-Signal For Lara 1996-Nigel Lewis-Movin 1997-Machel Montano-Big Truck 1998-Wayne Rodriguez-Footsteps 1999-Senelle Dempster-River
Big up for listing every single Road March song since 1932! Now to find the songs to play at parties...
Also, revisit the interview i did with Machel on this subject and many more!

Everyone knows K-OS is my favorite Hip Hop Artist. Much like Drake was a couple years ago, this Trinidadian TO Native, has been for a while. Not too commercial so he probably wont blow as big, but he def got a huge following. Take a listen, no wrong stearing!
This was called the Danny Dread segment, by original sound selector Danny Dread. Arms flailing, foot skanking, sound killing. I wont say never, but i havent ever seen this before....
Go check it out, they put up my Drake Slow Jam Mix. Pretty dope site that you should def bookmark to keep up with your Chicago music and Funk in general!
